In 1975 I began designing what was later to be called an "Ambigram" a term coined by Douglas Hofstadter.
My first instinct was to invent and design new letter forms. The intention was to develop forms that I could use in future word designs.
Funny thing though, many of these words I have yet to finish. I guess it's hard to get back to something when new ideas keep presenting themselves.
I sent these first drawings in xerox form through mail to myself as a way of documentation. Here is one example document from that period in my development.
